The following article argues that Facebook and other forms of social media are enhancing communication between individuals. The author claims that it allows for people to stay connected with one another no matter where they are, sites like Facebook bridge the gap that physical separation creates. The author also argues online communication can help people with dysfunctional syndromes to achieve a level of social interaction they could not have previously obtained. The final point the author makes is that social networking sites can bring people with different backgrounds together who might not have otherwise met.
This being said, I still believe face-to-face communication is a stronger method of communication that we as a society can't afford to lose. People nowadays are spending way too much time of sites like Facebook, they are not getting in the much needed practice of speaking with someone in person. Even though Facebook has the ability for people to stay connected over distance, is the friendship really the same as if you were to see each other in person? How can you express your emotions on keyboard?

Good article about Facebook privacy
Hey guys, if any of you are writing about privacy the following is an article worth looking at. It's from a Canadian newspaper but it still has some great information. Canada's privacy commissioner talks about the issue as well as other experts on the issue.

Interesting Article for Blog Assignment
I have decided to write my argumentative essay on how Facebook and other social media are destroying much needed communication skills. I have found the following article, which raises up a lot of great points.
http://www.thedaonline.com/opinion/social-networking-hurts-the-communication-skills-of-college-students-1.1689315
The article talks about how social networking hurts the communication skills of college students. Students have become more comfortable sending an email to their professor rather than speak to them face to face. Face-to-face communication has become a foreign concept to many people because of social media sites such as Facebook and twitter. Basically the article states that social networking has destroyed the link between face and voice.
At first I didn't realize that Facebook could cause so much damage in the way we communicate but after doing some research I can completely understand why people are so worried about our generation. So many people rather hide behind their computer screen than have a face to face conversation. I found the validity of the writer's arguments to be the most interesting.
This is controversial because a lot of people are going to disagree and say that social networking enhances communications between individuals.
I don't really have any questions as of right now because I need to do more research on the topic to become more informed.

Blog Assignment- Facebook Ads
Super Smartphone Sale:
This ad features a photo of a nice looking cell phone. It has been popping up on my Facebook page for about a week or so. I have been on the AT&T website a lot the past two weeks trying to pay my phone bill. I have also been on other cellular companies websites comparing rates, to try to find the best fit. Perhaps it’s trying to tell me to get a new phone because I’m having issues with mine.
Teach English Abroad:
This ad features three young adults with huge smiles on their face. To be honest I’m really not sure why this ad has been popping up every so often. It a really cool opportunity but I’m not interested in it at all right now. The only thing I can think of that might be slightly related, is being on some Canadian websites. But that doesn’t make too much sense to me because we speak English in Canada as well. After seeing this ad numerous times, maybe I should look into it.
Discover Student Card:
This ad features a credit card that says “your name” on it. I have seen this ad only the past couple days, and I have a feeling it is because I have been researching some summer jobs. I have also been on a resume building website so perhaps this is some sort of message for me to start making money for myself.
It’s kind of scary how Facebook knows so much about me!
I was wondering though because I don’t have any applications on my Facebook, do I get less ads then people who do have applications? I ask this because I know one of the ways Facebook knows about our latest hobbies or interests is through applications.

Wanring about the use of Facebook
Don't post vacation plans on social media sites.
This article explains why. Check it out- http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2011/02/05/ns-dont-post-vacation-plans-on-social-media-sites.html
A scary thought...
I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I just recently heard from a friend of mine that when you upload a photo onto Facebook from your cell phone, Facebook knows exactly when and where you were when the photo was taken. Facebook figures this out by tracking the location of the cell phone using the cellular network's cell towers.
I tried looking for an article about this topic but not a lot came up. Has anyone else heard about this?
